Poem with drawing.
Performance: Letters. Participative action with Begehungen Festal volunteers for Begehungen Festival 2014 at The Bauruine, Rosenplatz 5, Chemnitz, Germany, 2014.
Construction site with Cairns (made and unmade by hand), 5 instigating bodies, 100 plus witnesses. Duration: 1 hour
For your consideration: Documentation was produced by Begehungen Festival volunteers.
In 2014, I was selected to become an artist in residence at Begehungen Festival in Chemnitz, Germany.
My residency culminated in the transformation of a local ruin from a derelict, restricted zone into an inhabited construction site. As a storytelling stage the site was used for the release of digital testimonies made by Syrian war victims. The performance Letters was a night-time ‘grave robbery’ of the site. As crowds gathered, a group of festival volunteers bypassed safety lines, to dig up buried testimonies; smashing preservation jars open and passing around the contents amongst festival crowds.
